Research: The bridge to outstanding therapies

Mission Pharmacal has distinguished itself through its commitment to ongoing clinical research and is on the verge of exciting new breakthroughs in the areas of osteoporosis, urolithiasis, and cardiovascular disease.

Research continues in the advancement of new chemical entities and products which show great promise in the treatment of a variety of disease states. Clinical trials are underway and should result in a pipeline of technology that will serve the medical community, patients, and consumers for years to come.

Transforming orphan drugs into major advancements

Mission Pharmacal has directed much of its resources to the research and development of therapeutics and diagnostic procedures for the treatment and prevention of kidney stone disease. A strong commitment to this "Orphan Disease" has led to the development and marketing of four drugs:

Urocit®-K

Potassium citrate, for treatment of nephrolithiasis in patients with renal tubular acidosis (RTA) with calcium stones, hypocitraturic calcium oxalate of any etiology, and uric acid lithiasis, with and without uric acid stones.

Lithostat®

Acetohydroxamic acid, for the treatment of chronic urea-splitting urinary infections.

Thiola®

Tiopronin, for the prevention of cystine kidney stone formation.

Magtrate®

Magnesium gluconate, magnesium supplementation.

These innovative drugs are considered major advances in the medical management of kidney stone disease.

In recognition of our efforts, the National Organization for Rare Disorders has acknowledged Mission Pharmacal by awarding it the Corporate Leadership Award in observance of the 10th anniversary of the Orphan Drug Act.

Today, research continues in the advancement of new therapies. Mission intends to move forward, within the framework of sound clinical expertise, to expand its capabilities, thus providing outstanding therapeutics well into the future.
